Showcasing both the great diversity yet inherent interconnected nature of art created in the country in the last two centuries, the Minnesota Museum of American Art has a collection of thousands of pieces reflecting many lifestyles and cultures. A strong emphasis is placed on the works of regional artists, or art depicting the Midwest, both in its permanent collection and the temporary exhibits the museum displays. Just blocks from the Minnesota History Center, the museum is about three blocks east of the Xcel Energy Center on the bank of the Mississippi River.
