Covering the history of Minnesota between 1835 and the end of the 1800s, the Gibbs Museum of Pioneer and Dakotah Life includes the story of both the native Dakotah tribe and the new European descendants that began to occupy the area. Reconstructed and original dwellings including a partially-buried soddy, 1860s farmhouse, tipi and bark lodge, and all hold items representative of these very different lifestyles. The exhibits have a particular focus on the life of Jane Debow Gibbs, who was an early settler in the area and well-versed in the Dakotah culture and language. It is situated next to the University of Minnesota-Saint Paul campus and the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
